Week 52

I recently passed my first year anniversary of being unemployed.

In agonizing over my decision to quit work, one of the things I worried about was being bored.

Well, except for an hour here or there, I have not been bored. We will see if I get bored in my second year when I start getting into reruns.

I’ve already had a couple of reruns, one being another visit to that first home show I went to last year. I have to admit, it wasn’t as interesting as the first time, and I ended up yelling at one of the window sales people who wouldn’t let me go. I did my best to avoid giving my number out, but I’m now getting repeated calls from someone in San Fernando CA. I finally answered the other day, and the caller asked me about my Windows operating system. I wish people would leave me alone about my windows.

One of the solar people there did manage to capture my attention. I told him I had already been through the solar panel exercise and that the roof doesn’t get enough sun. But he told me that his company was building community solar farms. So I reserved a spot. So far I haven’t put any money down, and I’ve spent some time trying to find the “catch”, but I haven’t found one yet. So come this summer we might actually be getting our electricity from a farm.

The second rerun was the kitchen light. Back in May, my mother and I installed a couple of light fixtures in my kitchen. One of them was missing the glass shade because Phil (allegedly) had cracked it. When I got the replacement glass shade, I was having trouble getting it to hang straight, and, after looking at the installation instructions on-line, I learned there were a couple of small parts that were missing. I finally got around to picking up parts that I thought might do the trick.

While seeing if the parts would work, my husband decided to help me. And he cracked the glass shade.

Without saying a word, I went to the computer and in a few clicks had a new light ordered and on it’s way. I installed it last week. Again, not as fun as the first time.

And of course, there’s the mundane, routine stuff that I do that I don’t write about here.

But, no, I’m not bored. Overall, there still doesn’t seem to be nearly enough time to do the things I want to do. Blogging. Reading. Wandering the Internet. Improving my photography. Skating and exercising. DIY transformations. Moving bushes. Flipping houses. Decluttering. Weekend getaways and vacations. Family.

My husband wonders why my morning coffee cup is often still near the sink when he comes home from work.

Because there are so many other things I’m trying to get to.
