Three to Tivoli

This day was a travel day for some of us, and the morning was spent taking one last look out the hotel window and packing up.

Remember that hunk of cheese and stick of salami we had bought at the train station when the first Amalfi trip fell through? We never did eat it, so I was trying to convince Dave to bring it back with him. He made a face, but I told him my grandfather would love it up at the lake. Then someone mentioned customs, and sure enough, that would have been a $10,000 fine.

Once packed and after having one last coffee and pastry, I naturally started stressing out about making flights – even though I wasn’t one of the travelers. I ended up successfully pressuring Dave, Meagan, and Chris into catching an earlier bus to the airport.

As I’ve mentioned, we had been putting a lot of pressure on Nicole all week long. But when she saw the three of them pull away on the bus, she got a bit emotional. She was even sad to see this guy go who was celebrating his birthday that day.

With the afternoon ahead of us, Heather, Nicole, and I decided to pack a bag with the salami and cheese and take a train to Tivoli.

There we toured Villa d’Este. At one point while we were there, Heather stood looking around and asked “What is this place?”

And while we were all in marvel of it, we were well past the desire to learn at this stage of the vacation, so the question went unanswered.

From there, we wandered around the surrounding streets. The streets were empty and the shops were closed we suspect because it was Orthodox Easter.

And then back to Rome for one last dinner and one last gelato.

The trip home was uneventful, but when I did get home, I found a postcard in the mail that Nicole had sent long before the trip. I included the front of the postcard in the first post I shared about the trip. Here’s the back:

Did I neglect to mention the giggly wine nights?

Well, I couldn’t cover everything, now could I?

Ciao.
