Scheduled Repairs

A guy named Joe.

Not a terribly exciting guy.

But a nice guy.

And exactly who this country needs.

A guy who is polite.

A guy who is willing to listen and discuss.

A guy who moves past personal slights.

A guy who believes in science.

A guy who is willing to let people do their jobs.

A guy who does not need the limelight.

A guy capable of showing empathy.

A guy tough enough to deal with personal tragedy of unimaginable depths.

A guy who surrounds himself with brilliant women who outshine him.

There were plenty of those women in attendance at the inauguration.

  • Doctor Jill Biden
  • Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
  • First Lady Michelle Obama
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
  • Chief Justice Sonia Sotomayer
  • Vice President Kamala Harris
  • National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman

These women have pushed for and represent the change that is coming.

As Amanda Gorman said in her beautiful poem

Being American is more than a pride we inherit, it’s the past we step into and how we repair it.

We have a lot of repairing to do.

And there are people who are afraid of this repairing. They are afraid of Joe and these strong women and others like them. They are afraid of their taxes going up. They are afraid of losing their guns. They are afraid of beliefs that are counter to their own coming into play. (Imagine a world where hard core beliefs never change?) But most of all, I think these people are afraid of having something even more important to them taken away from them. Their privilege. Their power.

And I don’t blame them for that particular fear. Because with people like Amanda, they don’t stand a chance.

Hopefully, these people will come to the realization that this will be okay. That this will be better.

Wait. Who am I kidding? They will never come to that realization.

But it will be okay. It will be better.

Nice Michelle! It’s all such a relief, isn’t it? And I’ve got to throw in a chuckle for all the latest Bernie Sanders meme’s with his VT mittens. Ha!
