Quotes from the Persistent One

It’s a little alarming how much I’ve been hanging out with people lately.

People I don’t even know.

And I’m learning their names. I think I’ve learned more names over the past few weeks than I’ve learned during my entire life.

Today I carpooled with one of them – Margaret – to go hear Elizabeth Warren in Worcester.

On the way there, I must have been a little flustered having to talk to someone, because I drove 5 miles out of the way down 495. In correcting our course, I believe I came very close to colliding with a truck. I’m hoping Margaret didn’t notice.

We parked twice – the first time in a tow zone which I realized as we were walking away from the car. We hadn’t seen the “Employee Only” sign because we had entered the parking lot going the wrong way.

Despite all of that, we made it on time, and as we headed into the event, we were both handed a number in case we wanted to ask questions.

Once I got settled in my seat, I got busy taking pics and sending tweets as @IndiGrotonArea since I have agreed to help our Indivisible group’s social media team. (From a strictly technical perspective, I know how to be social.)

Since I was focused on my phone, I wasn’t really paying attention to the preliminary instructions being given by the hosts. Like here’s what you do if your number is called. And here are the first two numbers.

They called my number a couple of times before it registered with me they were calling my number.

Yes, I got up in front of TV cameras and a crowd and asked Elizabeth Warren a question.

Some of you may not know or remember that this is my second time in front of the camera.

My question: “Can you share any insights you have into the Senate committee investigations of Russian interference and what you are doing to encourage those investigations?”

She was very appreciative of my question (at least that’s the way I saw it), and she went off on the history, what was going on with the committees, and how we need to get his tax returns.

She said we need a special prosecutor, we need an independent and transparent investigation, and we need EVERYONE to get behind this – Democrats and Republicans.

She had a ton of energy, and I couldn’t keep up with everything she was saying. (Margaret took pages of notes, and I look forward to seeing them.) She touched upon all the hot topics and issues out there. She appeared to get the most worked up when she was talking about the repeal of the ACA and the impact that would have on people. She wants the Republicans to explain their plan to those people. She says it is their job.

Here are some of the quotes that I caught (and tweeted):

I always make sure I am heard.

Persistence pays.

Gorsuch? No.

You know what speaking out does? It gets you to speak out the second time. And the sixth time. It gets your Mom to speak out.

We have to show we are willing to fight back.

Trumpcare, that’s a no, no, no, no, no.

Everybody lace up your boxing gloves.

I have to admit.

I love her.

I was there to witness your first on camera debut. You were awesome then as I am sure you were today.
By the way your the most social, unsocial person i know by far! She persisted – yay.

    • I still blame all of this on you Susan! I was thinking about that today. I remember those walks when we first started nervously broaching the subject of politics. That nervousness didn’t last long!

Michelle, You flustered?? I was never a witness to that!!! I am so proud of what you are doing!! I am involved in a few things with my church in Foxboro, (Foxboro Unitarian Universalist).

    • 🙂 That’s great you are getting involved through your church! If you have a link or other info to share, please do! Maybe there are some collaboration opportunities.
