Spring?

Time for baseball and yard work, even if the weather begs to differ.

My Driveway March 9 My Backyard April 1 Me Being Stubborn

Though the forsythias seem to be making an effort. I planted a few last spring in an attempt to find something the deer don’t like. Don’t get me started on the deer.

The front yard is in better shape than the back. Purchasing and having a landscaper spread 40+ yards of bark mulch is not in the budget this year, so I’m going around in my plentiful spare time and turning over the existing 40+ yards of mulch. I think I have about 5 yards done.

I also spent a day doing one of my favorite things – acting like a pyro. The first step was clearing the ice out of the fire pit. It only took me two hours to get the fire burning strongly.  I went through a lot of matches and paper and must have looked ridiculous acting like a human bellows.

I only burned myself a couple times, and I think I avoided singeing my hair this year. I got through all of the brush pile except for the branches I couldn’t dislodge from the ice. Today, I’m having significant trouble bending down to pick anything up.

A toilet paper tube stuffed with dryer lint makes a great fire started. We can usually start the fire with one match that way. Do you put your ashes in the compost pile?

    • Thanks! I certainly have plenty of toilet paper tubes and dryer lint, so I will try that next time. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t have an “official” compost pile, but I’m getting geared up to do that. Are ashes good for a compost pile?
