Light, Composition, Subject

In an effort to learn something new, I downloaded National Geographic’s Fundamentals of Photography course.  In the first lecture, the photographer emphasizes that light, composition, and subject are important elements of iconic photos.

Here’s his example:

I think I’m missing all three elements.

What your photo is missing is a story. The lecturer’s photo has one, and it draws you in because you want to know more (e.g., where is the dog? who is it with? where is it going?)

    • You are right Jeff. Here’s the untold story behind my photo. The dog is in a bedroom that I desperately want to repaint. (The color worked once upon a time, long ago.) The dog is alone with me – not a first choice by either of us. The dog is waiting for me to look away so that she can sneak off to hunt for trouble.
