Goals and Action Plans

When I worked (for money), I was excellent at setting goals and establishing an action plan for achieving those goals.

The problem is I didn’t always know why the goal was the best one, or even a good one. I just itched to take action.

Of course I’m applying the same mentality to this blog. I have no idea where I’m going with this thing. This is my 153rd published post. Part of me is amazed by that fact. The other part of me is also amazed by that fact – though in a different way.

I keep thinking I want more followers. (But why?)

I also keep thinking I want to do more serious writing. (Again, why? And what do I mean by “serious”?)

One of my action steps was to create an account on Medium, a web site that allows people to write stories without having to go through the hassle of creating and maintaining a blog. The focus in on the writing rather than photos or ads, and it is suppose to be for “writers”.

I’ve been sharing some handpicked and tweaked posts from this blog as “stories” to my Medium account. I’ve also written one new story there. Up until recently, my stats were not impressive. 14 views, 11 reads, and 3 recommends. And one follower – my sister Jo.

But at the end of September, I shared Letters. That same day, I got an email from the editor of Lighthouse, one of Medium’s publications, asking if she could include it in the publication.

This is what my stats look like today:

And I have 36 followers!

And 35 of them aren’t family!

I know. 36 followers and 24 recommends. You’re laughing at me, aren’t you?

And I didn’t even really write Letters.

Leave me alone.

I have my action plan.
