Demo Days

In our family, if we want something (anything) done, we give Uncle Donald a call. Well, he showed up this week to help get Dave’s condo ready for listing.

As I previously mentioned, my brother and I had differences of opinion as to what needed to be done, and we were counting on the realtor to help solve those differences.  I’m guessing the realtor is very smart, because he is being very careful about what advice he dispenses.

Uncle Donald, on the other hand, has been really clear with his advice. And it has mostly been “That needs to go.”

Since it is what I want to hear, I have been quick to take his advice. Meanwhile, my brother is having a conniption – from a remote location, though.

So, here’s what the demo looks like. (Before shots will be provided with the after shots when available.)

Don’t worry, the wallpaper will be going as well.

In addition to all that demo and the medicine cabinet, he repaired a window, completed the wiring for a new microwave, and installed a doorbell, several smoke detectors, and two light fixtures (one that I had turned from brass to brushed nickel with spray paint).

Installing Spray Painted Fixture

In addition to spray painting that light fixture, I installed some shelves in the laundry closet, painted the small shelf over the upstairs vanity, took out the demo material, made several trips to Lowes and Home Depot (one time driving his truck in the snow), carried in all the new material (sometimes with his help), and learned more about shower faucets than I thought was possible (I know how Bill feels about footballs).

I also made him lunch. Because I need to feed the people I love.

For two days of work, I am satisfied with what we accomplished. Which is quite a bit more than just having the carpets cleaned.

Next week, the painters come in and the install continues.
